On 25 February, Azerbaijan Committee against Torture Chairman Elchin Behbudov visited “Bizim Yol” Newspaper Correspondent Mushfig Huseynov in Prison #2. E. Behbudov told this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety.

Although Mushfig Huseynov does not have any complaints about prison conditions or his health, he asked Behbudov for the Committee to assist him to be pardoned, according to Behbudov. Committee Chairman said that he had already appealed to the President once on behalf of the  Committee against Torture, but will appeal to the President this week again to pardon Mushfig Huseynov.
Mushfig Huseynov was convicted under Article 311.1 (receiving of a bribe) of the Criminal Code and on 21 January 2008 was sentenced by Grave Crimes Court Judge Jamal Ramazanov to 6 years of imprisonment, followed by 2 year ban on his writing activity.  However, this sentence was reduced to 5 years through a decision adopted by Appellate Court Judge Sahibkhan Mirzayev on 4 April 2008.
