NASIMI COURT DISMISSES JOURNALIST’S LAWSUIT

Nasimi District Court dismissed the second lawsuit brought by Yeni Musavat employee Elmin Badalov, who has been campaigning to be reinstated at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy.

He was expelled back in January. Badalov said that he would appealing against the decision.
BACKGROUND
 Elmin Badalov was dismissed from the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy on January 19th of this year. On November 12 2009, Badelov published an article called “A Report from the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy”, detailing incidents of bribery and financial fraud at the university. It appeared on the pia.az website. The student-journalist claims that the harassment he faced and his academic failures were punishment for this article. He filed a lawsuit to Nasimi District Court to reinstate his unversity place. On April 5, 2010 the Nasimi District Court dismissed Badalov’s lawsuit of against Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. On 2 July, 2010, Baku Appeals Court upheld this decision. On November 23, the Supreme Court once again upheld the decision.
