NATIONAL PRESS DAY OBSERVED WITH VIST TO JOURNALISTS’ GRAVE

Today (22 July), at the initiative of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety, on the occasion of National Press Day in Azerbaijan, several members of the journalism and human rights communities visited the graves of the founder of Azerbaijan's press Hasan Zardabi, slain “Monitor” magazine editor-in-chief Elmar Huseynov’s and “Azadlig” newspaper’s first editor-in-chief Najaf Najafov.

They also visited the graves of Chingiz Mustafayev, Ali Mustafayev, Fakhraddin Shahbazov and Salatin Asgarova, all of whom died in Nagorno Karabakh and have been bestowed the title of National Hero.

Participants gave small speeches and the lives of the journalists and their contributions to journalism.

IRFS employees, journalists, members of “Dalga” Youth Movement, Director of “Turan” Information Agency Mehman Aliyev, and human rights activists Leyla Yunus and Arzu Abdullayeva all participated in this event.
