NSM RESPONDS TO APPEAL OF PRESS COUNCIL ON MURDERED JOURNALIST

On October 3rd, the Press Council’s official website reported that the National Security Ministry has responded to the Press Council’s appeal to speed up the investigation into the murder of the late journalist and editor-in-chief at Monitor magazine Elmar Huseynov,.

The response letter asserted that the investigation and criminal case are continuously ongoing and that around 1000 various investigative and procedural actions have been carried out since the transfer of the case to the investigation department of NSM.
The persons proved to have been involved in the crime are being pursued in an international search via Interpol. The letter reads, ”The principal issues are the investigation of all information and details on the criminal case and bringing the criminals into criminal liability. The main issue is that the responsible criminals are known. They will be detained and will be brought to justice. For this reason, investigative operation is being continued without break.”
Monitor magazine editor-in-chief Elmar Huseynov was shot dead by an unknown person in front of his aparment.  A while later the Azerbaijani government stated that the murder was committed by Teymuraz Aliyev and Tahir Khubanov, Azerbaijanis settled in Georgia. However, the Georgian government has refused to deliver them to Azerbaijan, citing  lack of evidence.
