Today a response came for the information request the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety sent on 18 April to the National TV and Radio Council (NTRC) inquiring about how the MTRC assesses the work of local and international broadcasters operating in Azerbaijan.
The NTRC said that their work is satisfactory. In response to a question about balance, the Council responded that the local and international broadcasters do an average job of maintaining balance. At the same time, it is noted that both local and international broadcasters do on occasion violate balance.
In a letter about extending the license of “Radio Liberty” it is noted that when the station’s license expires this issue will be reviewed in accordance with the law “On television and radio broadcasting.”
Recall that, as IRFS previously reported, in a meeting between Radio Liberty President Jeff Gedmin and Ilham Aliyev, Aliyev noted the based on one month of monitoring carried out by the government of the station’s work in Azerbaijan, it was determined that Radio Liberty’s work in Azerbaijan is unsatisfactory.
