OSCE BAKU OFFICE HOLDS DISCUSSION ON ROLE OF BROADCAST MEDIA IN ELECTIONS

The role of broadcast media in covering democratic elections was the focus of a roundtable discussion in Baku today.

The event brought together the director generals of Azerbaijan's television stations, local electoral officials, and international experts from Israel, Turkey and the UK.
"The media today is an indispensable element of a democratic electoral process. They have the responsibility to convey to the population the messages of all political parties. The OSCE is assisting the media community in Azerbaijan with this objective in mind," said Ambassador Jose Luis Herrero, the Head of the OSCE Office.
A one-hour live debate between meeting participants will be broadcast tonight by the Public TV and the ITV broadcasting company to give the public a chance to learn about different views and experiences of other countries in the field.
