PERMISSION GRANTED FOR BRAODCASTING OF TV PROGRAMS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGES

Trend News Agency, citing National Television and Radio Council (NTRC) chairman Nushirvan Maharramli, reported that today the NTRC conducted a meeting.

During the meeting a decision was adopted regarding the broadcast of TV programs in foreign languages.

According to Maharramli, TV channels operating in Azerbaijan will be granted permission to broadcast some special programs, intellectual shows and special educational programs intended to teach foreign languages, as long as these do not exceed 30 minutes.

In addition to this news can be broadcast in foreign languages, under the condition that there are subtitles in Azerbaijani.

Recall that on 1 January 2008 a rule adopted by the NTRC forbidding the broadcasting of films and documentaries in foreign languages went into effect. At the same time, a cloud of uncertainty hung over the fate of popular TV programs, like the Russian languages trivia game show “What, Where, When?”
