“RAPHTO” AWARD PRESENTED TO MELAHET NASIBOVA

Today, 9 November, in the Human Rights House, a ceremony was held to present the 2009 Raphto award for Human Rights to Radio Liberty correspondent Melahet Nasibova.    

M.Nasibova stated that she is proud to receive the 2009 Raphto Human Rights award.
“The presentation ceremony took place in the National Theatre in Bergen city, Norway,” said Nasibova. “I believe I received this award on behalf of Azerbaijan.”
M.Nasibova added that during the ceremony she talked about the Freedom of Expression Situation and about persecution against journalists and their imprisonment in the country.
Human Rights House representative Regsane Mammadova, Chairwoman of the Institute for Peace and Democeracy Leyla Yunus, Human Rights House Coordinator Vugar Gojayev, and Center for Media Rights Chairperson Metanet Muslumgizi spoke during the event and congratulated M.Nasibova.
Institute for reporters’ Freedom and safety Chairman Emin Huseynov, representatives of British Embassy and Norwegian Embassy and composer Firidun Allahverdi participated in the event.

Melahet Nasibova is a reporter for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and “Turan” information agency. She also heads the Democracy and NGO Development Resource Center that operates in Nakhchivan.
