SEVENTH CONFERENCE ON FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION HELD IN ISTANBUL

On the 9th and 10th of September, the seventh conference on international freedom of expression was held at Bilge University in Istanbul, Turkey

Representatives from  Norway, the Philippines, the United States, Turkey, Russia, the Ukraine, Malaysia, Bulgaria, Georgia, India, Great Britain, Azerbaijan, and Switzerland participated in the event.
The conference opened with a report from each representative, reflecting upon the dynamics of freedom of expression in their respective countries. A discussion followed.
Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety Chairman Emin Huseynov spoke about the freedom of expression in Azerbaijan.
Internationally renowned professor and linguist Noam Chomsky closed the conference with a speech on Democracy and Rights in the Emerging World Order.
The event was organized by Amnesty International and Circle of Freedom of Expression, and was supported by Freemuse, Article 19, Human Rights Watch, International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX), Index on Censorship, International Pen, and International Press Association (IPA).
