SUPREME COURT DOES NOT FULFILL JOURNALISTS APPEAL

On February 11th, the Supreme Court heard journalist Yasar Agazadeh’s appeal against the Governmental Commission on flood recovery, who refused to respond to the journalist’s information inquiry, Media Rights Institute lawyer Khalid Agaliyev told IRFS today.

According to him, the Supreme court upheld the Court of Appeals decision. Agaliyev says an appeal against the Supreme court judgment will be sent to the European Court of Human Rights.
BACKGROUND
In July, 2010, journalist Yasar Agazade addressed an information inquiry to the Commission’s Chairman Artur Rasizade requesting the copies of documents establishing the amount of compensations, reports on payment of compensations, and other documents related to the flood recovery. The inquiry was not responded and that’s why a lawsuit followed. Sabayel District Court didn’t fulfill the lawsuit in August, 2010. Baku Appeals Court upheld the decision in October, 2010.
