The head of the “Khural TV” Internet resource, Avaz Zeynalli, who is under arrest, is concerned about the ban on telephone conversations and meetings with relatives, his the lawyer Fahraddin Mehdiyev told Turan.
The lawyer pointed out the groundlessness of the ban, since the law guarantees the accused telephone conversations twice a week and 4 times a month meetings with relatives.
Complaints to the court with a request to remove this ban introduced by the investigation body were not satisfied. The defense intends to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights on this matter. Mehdiyev also pointed out that investigative actions against Zeynalli are not being carried out.
* Lawyer Elchin Sadigov and “Khural TV” website founder Avaz Zeynalli were detained on September 10 on suspicion of accepting a bribe, and on September 11 the court arrested both.
On September 17, the Baku Court of Appeal transferred Sadigov to house arrest.
Later, a new charge was brought against Zeynalli under the Article 312-1.1 (Illegal influence on the decision of an official (trading in authority) of the Criminal Code. On December 29, Zeynalli’s arrest was extended by 3 months.
