Yesterday, 20 October, in the Yasamal District Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Svetlana Ahmadova, a hearing was held on the lawsuit put forth by the Head of the Caucasus Muslims Department Sheykul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade against "Gundalik Baki" newspaper for defense of honor and dignity.
The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by “Gundalik Bakı” newspaper editor Adil Huseynli.
According to Adil Huseynli, although the plaintiff’s lawyer Mukhtar Mustafayev participated in the hearing, the lawyers working for defendant Zaur Ibadov and Ceyhun Jafarov did not take part. The judge scheduled the next hearing on this case for 29 October at 09:30 a.m.
A. Pashazade filed a lawsuit against "Gundalik Baki" Newspaper due to article "Narcotics Itinerary in the South – 2" published in the newspaper on 14 January, 2009. Pashazade claims that his honor and dignity was damaged, and demands that the newspaper publish a refutation and apologize.
