Trial of Emin Milli’s Brother-In-Law: Witnesses Testimonies Continue

Summary: Hearing 6 (February 3)

 

Ø  Elkhan Jalilov, an employee of the Drug Enforcement Department of Baku City Main Police Office, testified as a witness, stating that drugs had been found in Nazim Agabayov’s pocket and in his car;

Ø  Emin Sadigov, who had been invited by the police to witness the search of Nazim Agabayov and his car, said when a drug wrap was pulled from Nazim’s pocket, Nazim said that it did not belong to him.

Baku Serious Crimes Court, under judge Afgan Hajiyev, held a hearing on the criminal case against Nazim Agabayov, who has been arrested on drug charges. Agabayov is the the brother-in-law of Meydan TV director Emin Milli.

 

The hearing proceeded with testimonies by prosecution witnesses.

 

Testimonies of prosecution witnesses: 

Elkhan Jalilov, an employee of the Drug Enforcement Department of Baku City Main Police Office, testified as a witness at the hearing. He identified himself as one of the police officers involved in the apprehension of Nazim Agabayov. He said that they stopped Agabayov in the 9th micro-district of Baku and brought him to the Baku City Main Police Office, where drugs were found in his pocket and in the trunk of his car.

Next, Emin Sadigov, who had been invited by the police to witness the search of Nazim Agabayov and his car, took the stand. He began his speech by expressing regret for his involvement in the case. “I made a big mistake. I did not know there would be so much trouble…”

 

Emin Sadigov, a graduate of the law faculty of Baku State University, told the court that he had been in the 9th micro-district when the police officers asked him to serve as a witness during the search. “I went to the police office with the policemen. At the police office, they pulled a drug wrap out of Nazim Agabayov’s pocket, which he said did not belong to him. Then, they pulled a computer, a child’s car seat, discs and a bag out of the trunk of the car. At the police office, they asked whether he wanted a lawyer. He said “No, I do not need a state lawyer. I will have my own lawyer’.”

 

Nazim Agabayov’s lawyer, Adil Ismayilov, asked Emin Sadigov when he had given his statement to investigators. Sadigov said he had been questioned around a week or ten days after Nazim Agabayov’s arrest. Adil Ismayilov called the court’s attention to the case materials, which stated that Sadigov was questioned the day after Agabayov’s arrest.

 

The judge announced that one main witness is still to be heard, but that he is currently in Russia.

The next hearing on the case is scheduled for February 15, 14.00. 

Background: Nazim Agabayov was arrested on July 27, 2015, and is charged with drug trafficking.
