TWO FEMALES JOIN JOURNALISTS’ HUNGER-STRIKE FOR A DAY

“Gundalik Azerbayjan” Newspaper employee Aynur Gunesh and Freedom of Speech Defense Committee Chairman Arzu Abdullayev joined for a day the hunger-strike currently being carried out by several journalists.

Gunesh told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that she and Abdullayev are conducting the one-day hunger-strike in their workplace, the office of Azerbaijan’s National Committee of the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly.
Workers from the Freedom of Speech Defense Committee adopted a decision on this matter during a meeting. According to the decision, anyone can join the hunger-strike for up to three days. People who have a lot of work will be permitted to strike in the office of Azerbaijan’s National Committee of the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly for one day.
Today IRFS employees visited the four journalists that are hunger-striking in “Yeni Musavat” Newspaper’s editorial office. The journalists were examined by doctors this morning. “Gundalik Azerbayjan” employee Elshan Balakhanli appealed to doctors after problems arose in his death. Doctors determined Balakhanli’s blood pressure was very low – 80/40. The journalists emphasized that all of the findings of the doctors are being officially documented.
