TWO NEWSPAPERS FACE FINANCIAL HARDSHIP

“Baku Zaman” newspaper has temporarily stopped its publication.

The newspaper’s Chief Editor Elnur Maharramli told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that that this decision was adopted because of financial difficulties. He explained that the paper’s funding source has stopped providing assistance due to pressure. The Chief Editor added, “We are planning to publish the newspaper once a week as an analytical newspaper if the problem persists.”

“Hurriyyet” newspaper also reduced its publication. The newspaper, which was once a daily, will now be published twice a week. “Hurriyyet” Chief Editor Suleyman Mammadov told IRFS, “We used to finance the newspaper ourselves. Now we are facing financial hardships. If we find a financial source we’ll continue to publish the newspaper like we did before.”
