On March 31, the Yasamal District Court of Baku arrested Jeyhun Novruzov, the head of the Sabail district organization of the Popular Front Party, for 30 days of administrative arrest. Another member of this party, Sahladar Iskenderli, was arrested for 25 days. Both were found guilty under the Article 535.1 (non-compliance with police requirements) of the Code of Administrative Misconduct, the press service of the PFPA.
Both activists were detained on March 30 at a protest rally in front of the Ministry of Justice in defense of PFPA member Zamin Salayev, who is on a hunger strike for the 53rd day in Baku Pre-trial-detention center N1 demanding release.
The PFPA considers the arrests of Novruzov and Iskenderli a violation of freedom of assembly. The arrest decisions will be appealed to the Court of Appeal.
The Yasamal district Court confirmed the information about the arrest of the oppositionists.
Earlier, the PFPA announced the detention of more than 50 activists at the March 30 rally, most of whom were released a few hours later.
