According to Turan, the fire broke out at 11 o’clock in the evening, when he and his wife were not at home. Their children did not escape from the one-storey house, although the doors and windows were not locked. He did not have a propane container at home. He and his lawyer suspect that the house was either deliberately set alight, or an explosive was thrown in it.
The General Investigation Office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations is investigating the case. The ministry claims that a fire caused by a short circuit broke out in the house. Vasif Turan and his lawyer disagree, arguing that the house was deliberately set on fire. They believe the reason behind the crime was Turan difficult relationship with the director of the local brick making plant, who constantly boasted that he was a relative of Kemaleddin Heydarov, the Minister of Emergency Situations.
Despite his appeals to the president, the interior minister and the Head of Parliament, and the Investigation Department of the General Prosecutor’s Office gave a personal pledge that the case would be solved, there has been no result.
