The Communications and Information Technology Ministry’s information community development department chairman Rufat Gulmammadov told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that today Co-ordination Council’s regulation over Internet Development has been affirmed.

Responding to a question about how members of the council will be selected, Gulmammadov noted that the candidates will include representatives of the state, businessese and NGOs. “We’ll appeal to non-governmental organizations that operate in the information technology area. Their names will be determined within 15 days and we’ll introduce their names to Minister Ali Abbasov”.

The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety spoke via telephone with Multimedia Center chairman Osman Gunduzlu. Gunduzlu said, “We are uninformed about this and it is not clear why this Council founded. He also added that, they don’t intend to participate in that Council. “We think that it is not necessary to found such structure, because it will cause a censorship in the end,” said Gunduzlu. “Both local and international legislation doesn’t reflect the foundation of such a structure. Actually we need to conduct works on the registration of national Internet addresses and to improve them.”
