HEARING HELD ON JOURNALIST`S APPEAL

Today, 16 February, in the Baku Appellate Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Hasan Ahmadov, a hearing was held on the appeal of Yukselish Namine newspaper’s correspondent Elchin Hasanov. The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety was told this by Elchin Hasanov.

E.Hasanov’s lawsuit against the Police Department #9 regarding his unfounded arrest on 23 November 2006 and the Financial Ministry regarding the provision of a lawyer for him on the account of the government was not fulfilled in the Sabail District Court or the Baku Appellate Court. On 24 December the Supreme Court fulfilled the cassation complaint and issued a decision to send the case to the Appellate Court to be reconsidered.
During today’s hearing, Judge H.Ahmadov told the plaintiff to bring a certificate confirming that he does not work anywhere and does not have any incomes.
The next hearing on this case is now scheduled to take place on 18 February at 4:00 p.m.
Financial Ministry representative Samir Nasibov participated in the hearing.
Yukselish Namine newspaper has been published weekly since 2004 with financial assistance from the US National Endowment for Democracy and had breaks several times.
