The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) issued a statement in connection with the threat of imprisonment for 15 years by Niyameddin Ahmedov, the bodyguard of the leader of the Popular Front Party, Ali Karimli.
Ahmedov is being persecuted on trumped-up charges, and during the investigation he was severely tortured in the State Security Service, demanding to incriminate the PFPA leader. However, they could not break Ahmedov, after which they were accused of financing terrorism.
From the very beginning of his imprisonment, Ahmedov’s rights were violated, he was not given telephone conversations and meetings with his relatives.
The NCDF believes that Ahmedov is being punished for the fact that during the opposition rally on October 19, 2019, until the last moment, he defended Karimli from the police. As a result, both were detained and beaten.
The NCDF demands from the government to stop persecuting Ahmedov, and from the court – to pass a fair verdict and acquit Ahmedov.
The NCDF calls on the world democratic community and the people of Azerbaijan not to remain indifferent to the imprisonment of another innocent person and to raise a voice of protest against this.
