The arrested activist of the Party of People’s Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA), Niyameddin Akhmedov, went on hunger strike in a medical institution of the penitentiary service. This was reported by his family.
He started a hunger strike on September 22 when at the trial the prosecutor called to sentence him 15 years of imprisonment.
Five days ago, he had already refused water. His condition is serious and he is taken to telephone conversations in a wheelchair, his relatives said.
The prison service was unavailable for comment.
It should recalled that Niyameddin Akhmedov is the bodyguard of the PPFA leader Ali Kerimli. He was detained on April 15, 2020. The next day, the court arrested him for 30 days for violating the quarantine regime and disobeying the police. Later, he was charged under a new Article – financing of terrorism and put on trial. During the investigation, he was tortured; the police tried to get testimony against the party leader, however, he did not give up.
