Opposition politician Tofig Yagublu testified at the Sabail district prosecutor’s office for 4.5 hours on Friday in connection with the brutal beating on December 1 by police. Let us remind you that he was detained at the Fountain Square during a rally in defense of the activist Salekh Rustamov.
Late in the evening, he was released after severe beatings in the 39th division of the Sabail police and in a car in which he was taken outside Baku and left near the village of Alat. As the lawyer Neymat Karimli told Turan, a criminal case on the fact of beating the politician has not yet begun, an investigation is underway.
Yagublu himself said that he did not believe in an objective investigation and punishment of those responsible. He intends to bring the case to the European Court of Human Rights.
After testifying, Yagublu was sent for a medical examination. Further, together with his participation, an inspection of the “scene of the incident” was appointed.
