Today the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety addressed an appeal related to the erection of a memorial in honor of slain Azerbaijani journalist Elmar Huseynov to Azerbaijan’s president.
The appeal was sent both through certified mail and to the president and presidential administration’s email addresses. In the appeal, IRFS asks President Ilham Aliyev to grant permission for the erection of a memorial honor of slain Azerbaijani journalist Elmar Huseynov on Matbuat Avenue in Baku city in. The memorial is to recognize Huseynov’s contributions in the areas of Azerbaijani journalism and freedom of speech. In IRFS’ appeal it is also noted that the local NGO is ready to locate needed funds for the memorial as soon as a suitable place for it is appointed.
