The incident that occurred between ANS “Ich Khabar” program employees and Yasamal District Police Department employees on the night of April 26 to 27 was investigated at the order of Minister of Interior Ramil Usubov. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by ANS Companies Group Vice President Mirshahin Agayev.
“Minister of Interior Ramil Usubov gave an order to investigate this case,” said M.Agayev. “The investigation concluded today and 1770 AZN was paid by the Yasamal DPD to ANS for the damages.
M.Agayev emphasized that police showed goodwill; therefore they decided to agree to the payment for the damages, but not to seek for the punishment of the police.
The Ministry of Interior Press Council employee Ehsan Zahidov said that the issue was investigated under the supervision of the minister and a payment for the damages was paid to ANS Company. He emphasized that police were doing their official duty and nobody was guilty in this incident.
On 27 April the ANS employees Njiat Suleymanov, Elmin Muradov and Azer Balayev, were carrying out their professional work as journalists, investigating the destruction of “Mahammad Aleyhussalam” mosque in Baku’s Yasamal region, when they were beat-up by the Yasamal District Police Department employees.
