Editor-In-Chief Interrogated on National Press Day

Shamshad Aga, editor-in-chief of the news website Arqument.az, was questioned at Main Organized Crime Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MOCD), the chief editor himself has reported. This morning MOCD investigator Haji Afandiyev called the chief editor and invited him to the Department at 15.00. He was questioned at the Department for almost two hours.
According to the chief editor, at the Department he was told that he was summoned in connection with the case of journalist Fikrat Faramazoglu, who is currently in detention. “They asked me why I had disseminated Fikrat Faramazoglu’s statements. I answered that I had no ties to Fikrat Faramazoglu and we had only done our job as journalists,” the chief editor said.
Arqument.az has published Fikrat Faramazoglu’s wife’s appeal to the president and other news.
Background: Journalist Research Center (jam.az) news website’s chief editor Fikrat Faramazoglu was arrested on June 30, 2016 and was charged under Article 182 (extortion) of the Criminal Code. Narimanov District Court ordered his pretrial detention on July 02, 2016.
Today, i.e. July 22 is marked as National Press Day in Azerbaijan.
