EMPLOYEE OF “YENI MUSAVAT” NEWSPAPER CALLED TO MINISTRY OF INTERIOR

Today, January 13, “Yeni Musavat” Newspaper employee Afgan Mukhtali was called to the Ministry of Interior. Mukhtarli himself reported this to the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety. He said that Ministry of Interior Internal Investigations Department Chief Anar Rzayev asked if the journalist has truly attended the January 7 protest action in front the Israeli Embassy in Baku as a journalist.

“Anar Rzayev told me that they had information that I should a slogan,” said Mukhtarli. “But I told him that at the time of the protest I was wearing a journalist vest and should police my press card when they started beating me. In addition, I noted that employees from ‘Khazar’ TV filmed this and it is possible to clarify this matter by appealing to them.”

A. Mukhtarli noted that investigator Shovgi Orujov has been tasked to investigate this matter. He said, “I once again brought up the matter of undergoing a medical examination, however they told me that that is in within the authority of the Prosecutor. I don’t believe that any police will be punished for beating me. That is why consultations are taking place, and in the near future, I will appeal to court.
