The Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation allocated financial aid – 22.000 USD to the “Assistance Foundation for the Defense of Journalists and Freedom of Speech” within the framework of their eight month project. During the meeting that was held by the administrative board of the Foundation last week, a decision was issued to allocate aid in the amount totaling 1050 AZN to four journalists.
According to the Regulation of Foundation, Janub khabarlari newspaper correspondent Perviz Azimov, fanat.az founder Zahir Rahimov , and fanat.az writer Natig Mukhtaro each received 250 AZN as an “item of assistance” for the defense of journalists who are involved in court. According to the “item of assistance to the treatment of injured journalist while doing his professional work”, former employee of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) Ejder Nagiyev received 300 AZN.
Founders of the Foundation are Yeni Nesil Journalist Union, Najaf Najafov Fund, and League of Azerbaijani Democratic Journalists.
