“GANUN” PUBLICATION AND INDEPENDENT JOURNALIST GABIL ZIMISTANOGLU SUED

Today, 25 November, in the Sabail District Court, under the chairmanship of judge Fuad Huseynov, a preliminary hearing was held on the lawsuit of Ashig Elesger’s grandchild and researcher Islam Elesger against independent journalist Gabil Zimistanoglu (Abdullayev) and “Ganun” publishing house.

The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by Gabil Zimistanoglu.

G.Zimistanoglu said that the plaintiff claims that they violated copyright law and he therefore submitted a protest application against the lawsuit to the judge.

“All the poems in the book I published were published as the poems of Ashig Elesger. That is why not Islam Elesger, but Ashig Elesger could be mentioned as copyright holder,” said Zimistanoglu. “I used poems from the first and second volumes of the book ‘Ashig Elesger,’ that was published in 1972.”

G.Zimistanoglu added that the hearing on this case was scheduled to take place on 7 December, at 3.00 p.m.

The plaintiff claims that their copyright was violated as a result of “Ashig Elesger All his works,” compiled by Gabil Zimistanoglu and published in the “Ganun” publishing house. I. Elesger is demanding that each of the defendants pay 10.000 AZN in compensation.
