GREAT BRITAIN OFFICIAL CONDUCTS DISCUSSIONS IN FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTRY OF AZERBAIJAN

Head of Political Issues of Great Britain Foreign Affairs Ministry Mark Lyall Grant has met Foreign Affairs Minister Elmar Mammadyarov during his visit to Azerbaijan. During the meeting, a discussion was conducted on the foreign radios stations that were banned on local FM frequencies. M. Grant stated that discontinuing the FM broadcasts of foreign radios on local frequencies has damaged international image of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan Foreign Affairs Ministry employee Elkhan Polukhov told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that during the meeting Foreign Affairs Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said it is reasonable to solve this issue within the framework of Azerbaijan Republic laws.
The broadcasts of "Radio Liberty", "Voice of America" and BBC via FM frequencies in Azerbaijan were ceased on 1 January 2009 on the basis of a decision that Azerbaijan's National Television and Radio Council issued on 30 December 2008.
