HEARING ON IRFS CHAIRMAN’S APPEAL POSTPONED

Today, 9 September, in the Baku Appellate Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Hilal Khalilov, a hearing to be scheduled to take place on the appeal of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety Chairman Emin Huseynov against the decision of the Nizami District Court in connection with his lawsuit against the Ministry of Interior, Nasimi District Police Department, and Nasimi District Police Department Office #22 for subjection to pressure was postponed.

The judge postponed the hearing until 23 September at 12:30 p.m. because the plaintiff did not participate in the hearing.
On 17 June 2009 the Nasimi District Court issued a decision not to fulfill Emin Huseynov’s lawsuit to consider the police interference in the peaceful event at “Alaturka” restaurant and his journalist work, his detention at police department #22, subjection to physical and moral pressure in the police department and failure to conduct effective investigation into this case unfounded and to render a 50 000 (fifty thousand) AZN fine against every defendant.
On 14 June 2008, a group of fans of Cuban revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevera was trying to conduct an event in "Alaturka" Restaurant when the employees of law enforcement organs interfered. IRFS Chairman Emin Huseynov, who was there observing and filming the event, was beaten by police in the Police Department 22. He lost consciousness due to police pressure and received treatment for more than twenty days in the hospital. He still continues his treatment.
