LAWSUIT OF GUNDALIK BAKI NEWSPAPER AGAINST PRESS COUNCIL NOT FULFILLED

Today, 2 April, in the Baku Economic Court #1, under the chairmanship of Judge Tahira Asadova, a hearing was conducted on the lawsuit of Gundalik Baki newspaper against Press Council Chairman Aflatun Amashov.

The plaintiff, Gundalik Baki newspaper editor-in-chief Habil Valiyev, and the newspaper’s lawyer Zaur Ibadov took part in the hearing. On behalf of the defendant Press Council Representative Shamsaddin Aliyev took part in the hearing.  
After listening to both sides, the judge issued a decision to not fulfill the lawsuit. The plaintiff’s lawyer Z.Ibadov told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that they will file an appeal against the decision.
On 30 December, 2009 the Press Council issued a decision to include Gundalik Baki newspaper on list of “racketeering press”. The newspaper leadership filed a lawsuit seeking for a publication of a refutation regarding the decision and to pay 100.000 AZN for moral damages and 50.000 AZN for material damages.
