Lawyer Elchin Sadigov is unable to meet with arrested REAL Movement executive secretary Natig Jafarli, as reported by the lawyer himself.
Elchin Sadigov says he has sent the documents (warrant of attorney) required for representing a person as a lawyer to the Serious Crimes Investigation Department of Prosecutor General’s Office, but has faced problems. “The investigator is telling me that allegedly my documents have not arrived at the prosecutor’s office. But I have a receipt regarding the documents’ arrival at the prosecutor’s office. This is a serious violation of the right of defence. I went to Kurdakhani detention centre to meet with Natig Jafarli, but they did not allow a meeting,” Elchin Sadigov said.
Background: REAL’s Executive Secretary Natig Jafarli was arrested on 12 August 2016. He was charged under Articles 192.1 (illegal business) and 308.2 (abuse of official powers – when such actions lead to serious consequences) of the Criminal Code, and Nasimi District Court sentenced him to four-months of pre-trial detention.
