Yesterday, 8 September, the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Miklos Haraszti visited imprisoned “Azadlig” Newspaper Editor-in-chief Ganimat Zahid in prison #17 and Editor-in-chief of “Gundalik Azerbaijan” and “Realniy Azerbaijan ” Newspapers Eynulla Fatullayev in prison #12.
During the visit OSCE representative was concerned about journalists` prison conditions and their health.
On 7 September M.Haraszti held a meeting with Azerbaijan’s media representatives and representatives of journalism organizations. Problems in connection with freedom of speech and the media sector in Azerbaijan, and issues regarding the imprisoned young bloggers were discussed during the closed meeting. The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety (IRFS) Chairman Emin Huseynov, Media Rights Institute Head Rashid Hajili, Media Expert Zeynal Mammadli, “Azadlig” Newspaper Director Azer Ahmadov and satiric journalist Sakit Zahidov, Azerbaijan Committee against Torture Chairman Elchin Behbudov, “Yeni Nesil” Journalist Union Chairman Arif Aliyev, Radio Liberty Baku Office Head Khadija Ismayilova and Azerbaijan Media Center Head Elshad Farzaliyev participated in the meeting.
