On 9 September “Yeni Musavat” Newspaper’s website musavat.com was allegedly hacked. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by musavat.com site founder Khalid Kazimli.
According to Khalid Kazimli, although newspaper’s web-technicians prevented hackers’ attacks that began at 2:00 p.m., the website stopped operating temporarily from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
“The website restored its work after our newspaper’s web masters took all necessary measures,” said K.Kazimli. “We investigated this issue and found out that the website was attacked because of a video footage placed on the site about a driver that was brutally beaten by the employees of the Ministry of Transportation. Therefore we decided to remove the footage from the site for several days.” K.Kazimli added that they will appeal to the Internal Affairs Ministry’s Department to Fight against Cybercrime in connection with this issue.
