PROGRAM ON MEDIA DEFENSE AND ALTERNATIVE PRESS ENDS

A group of 10 journalists and lawyers from Azerbaijan participated in the Media Defense and Alternative Press Community Connections Program.

The program was conducted in Columbus, Ohio in the United States. 

During the three week program, participants visited newspaper editorial offices, TV stations, law enforcement agencies, courts and other facilities, and had a number of meetings. During the meetings, information about U.S. practices related to the defense of journalists, the protection of their sources, legislation, alternative media, and the development of online journalism was provided. At the same time, participants gave information about the mass media situation in Azerbaijan.

The participants also had the opportunity to go to the Azerbaijani Embassy in Washington D.C., where the discussed media issues and how they affect Azerbaijan’s international image.

Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety employee Rasul Jafarov participated in the program.
