PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE TO INVESTIGATE JOURNALIT’S CASE WHO ALLEGEDLY WAS SUBJECTED TO PRESSURE

Today, 17 June, “Yukselish Namine” Newspaper correspondent Elchin Hasanov was called to the Sabail District Prosecutor’s Office. The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety was told this by Hasanov himself.    

Elchin Hasanov stated that the appeal of the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Elchin Mammadov regarding pressure he was subjected to on 10 May has been sent to the Sabail District Prosecutor’s Office.
“In the pictures and videos I showed Assistant Prosecutor Rasmiyya Kazimova the policemen subjecting me to harassment and emphasized that although I had a vest on me with PRESS sign on it, they used pressure against me. In the Prosecutor’s Office I was told that the prosecutor’s office will consider the case.”
A group of youth, who wanted a national mourning to be announced after the school shooting at the State Oil Academy on 30 April and protested the conduction of “Flower Holiday” were taken taken to Nasimi District Police Department #22 on 10 May. E. Hasanov was among of them and was subjected to harassment by police.
