REPUBLICAN PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE RELEASES STATEMENT ON BAKHTIYAR HAJIYEV

Today, January 27th, Republican Prosecutor’s Office released a statement on former parliamentary candidate, youth activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev. The statement, placed in the official website of the Office, says that Hajiyev was entitled to defer military service during his education years, but now he is conscripted to military service: “His right to deferment ended on June 30, 2006. However he didn’t come to the Ganja City Nizami District Military Commissariat.”

The statement goes on to say that Bakhtiyar Hajiyev passed a medical examination on July 10, 2010 and was considered eligible for military service; his named was added to the list of 2010 October conscripts. However, he didn’t come to the commissariat during the conscription period.
The statement underlines that a criminal case has been launched against Bakhtiyar Hajiyev for evading military service, and that an investigation is underway.
Hajiyev has responded to the statement with an appeal to the General Prosecutor Zakir Garalov, Hajiyev told Objective TV. The appeal says that the Prosecutor’s Office has distorted some facts. “I paid repeated visits to the military commissariat in 2006-2010. I provided statements of education from Khazar and Harvard Universities and they were attached to my military case. Today, there are also youth employees at President’s Office and youth representatives in Azerbaijani Parliament who obtained deferment of military service in 2006-2010. Then why it’s only me, who is brought into criminal responsibility?”
