SUPREME COURT ISSUES DECISION IN FAVOUR OF GUNDELIK BAKI NEWSPAPER

The Supreme Court rejected the lawsuit filed by “Haji Mazan” LTD founder Ramazan Zeynalov against “Gundalik Baki” Newspaper Editor-in-chief and Founder Habil Valiyev to defend his honor and dignity, and issued a decision to consider R.Zeynalov’s lawsuit unfounded. The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety was told this by the newspaper’s editor Edil Huseynli.

According to Edil Huseynli, a letter came to editorial-office from the Supreme Court specified decision that “Haji Mazan” LTD founder Ramazan Zeynalov`s lawsuit was unfounded.
The lawsuit stems from articles "Narcotics Itinerary in the South," published in the newspaper on 14 January 2009, and "Narcotics Itinerary in the South – 2," published in the newspaper on 22 January, 2009. The plaintiff appealed to the Yasamal District Court claiming that his honor and dignity was tarnished. The Yasamal District Court and Baku Appellate Court did not fulfill the lawsuit. The Plaintiff filed a cassation complaint to Supreme Court.
