ACCESS TO IRANIAN WEBSITES RESTRICTED IN AZERBAIJAN

November 4th, 2009
It has been impossible to visit the Azerbaijani Language Service of Iran State Radio and TV Organization’s webpage (http://azeri.irib.ir/) and the website of Iran’s “Seher” TV channel (http://setv.irib.ir/)  in Azerbaijan.

According to the “Media forum” website, on 4 October a video entitled “State organs in Azerbaijan controlled by Zionists” was placed on the website of the Iran State Radio and TV Organization. It was noted in the video-material that several parliamentarians and state officials participated in the courses held against Islam. The same material was placed on the website of “Seher” TV.

According to the Azerbaijan Bureau of Iran State Radio and TV Organizations, the aforementioned web addresses have been blocked by Azerbaijan.

Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies Press Service Head Mushfig Amirov told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that the notion that these websites were blocked by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies is unfounded. “This issue has nothing to do with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies,” said Amirov.

IRFS tried to learn the opinion of the Azerbaijan Bureau of Iran State Radio and TV Organizations, but our calls went unanswered.
