Afgan Mukhtarli Undergoes Medical Examination

Arrested journalist Afgan Mukhtarli has undergone medical examination after 31 days, as reported by lawyer Nemat Karimli.
“I met with Afgan Mukhtarli at Baku Detention Centre today. He has undergone medical examination today, 31 days after he had been beaten. Afgan Mukhtarli was subjected to torture in the territory of Georgia after being abducted near his home in Tbilisi on 27 May. He sustained injuries. He reported the fact since day one and motions were filed for his medical examination. According to the law, he should have been examined immediately. But they did so 31 days later, after Afgan Mukhtarli’s injuries had healed. The purpose was to cover up the fact that the journalist was battered,” the lawyer said. Karimli added that the journalist was in good spirits and sent regards to all friends.
