AGIL KHALIL SUES CHIEF PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE AND BORDER SERVICE

“Azadlig” Newspaper correspondent Agil Khalil has filed a lawsuit against the Chief Prosecutor’s Office, Grave Crimes Investigation Department of Chief Prosecutor’s Office, and State Border Service for their refusal to let him leave the country last weekend.

Khalil’s defense lawyer Elchin Sadigov submitted this claim to the Nasimi District Court.

Elchin Sadigov told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety, “In the lawsuit the court is asked to interpret the refusal to let Agil leave the country unlawful, to achieve the payment of compensation for the violation of his rights and to adopt a decision to let the journalist to leave the country whenever he likes.”

IRFS contacted Agil Khalil. The journalist is hopeful that the appeal that Reporters Without Borders organization made will have a positive outcome.
