On December 4, the family of Anar Mammadli, Chairman of the Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center, met with him at Prison #13, reported the human rights defender’s father, Asef Mammadov.
According to Asef Mammadov, Anar Mammadli’s health has worsened. “Anar is suffering from gastric pain. He was examined at the Central Treatment Facility of Penitentiary Service a month ago, but the pain has not gone away.”
He added that Anar Mammadli does not have any complaints about the detention conditions, except for the irregular heating, electricity and water, which is a typical problem on cold days.
Background: Anar Mammadli was arrested on December 16, 2013. On May 26, 2014, he was sentenced to 5.5 years. The human rights defender was convicted of tax evasion, misappropriation, and other offences.
