Today, the Baku Appeals Court rejected the appeal of Bizim Yol (Our Way) newspaper employee Ramid Ibrahimov against the Sabail District Court’s 27 May 2011 judgment on journalist’s lawsuit against Fazil Mahmudov, investigator at Sabail District Police Department # 9. The Judge Gail Mammadov presided over the hearing.
Judge Mammadov announced the decision to uphold the judgment issued by Sabail District Court, Ramid Ibrahimov reported to IRFS.
BACKGROUND
While Bizim Yol newspaper employee Ramid Ibrahimov was preparing a news report at a protest in front of the Presidential Administration on 12 February, he was physically assaulted by plain clothed persons. He complained to Sabail District Police Office # 9. However, his complaint was not investigated. Investigator Fazil Mahmudov decided not to launch a criminal case. The journalist appealed against this decision.
