APPEAL OF MEDIA RIGHTS INSTITUTE NOT FULFILLED

Today, 17 June, in the Baku Appellate Court, under the chairmanship of Judge Tofig Samadov, a hearing was conducted on the appeal against the decision of the Sabail District Court regarding the lawsuit of the Media Rights Institute against the National TV and Radio Council.

The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS) was told this by Media Rights Institute Project Coordinator Khalid Agaliyev.

Media Rights Institute representative Fariz Namazov participated in the hearing. Although the National TV and Radio Council representative did not participate in the hearing, the judge announced that the appeal was not fulfilled.

Khalid Agaliyev added that they will file an appeal at the Supreme Court after the decision is received.

In the information inquiry addressed to NTRC within the framework of the “Free Airwaves” project, MRI requested information regarding the methodology of the monitoring on TV channels and radios and normative legal acts regulating this monitoring. The NTRC did not respond to all the questions included in the information inquiry and stated that the conduction of the monitoring is regulated by the legislation. On 2 February 2010, a decision was issued in the Sabail District Court on the lawsuit filed regarding NTRC’s failure to fully respond to the inquiry.
