APPELLATE COURT DOESN’T FULFILL AGIL KHALIL’S APPEAL

Today (1 August) under the chairmanship of the Appellate Court Judge Sagi Mammadov the complaint filed in connection with a court decision not to consider the lawsuit on the ban against “Azadlig” Newspaper correspondent Agil Khalil’s departure from the country was considered.

Khalil’s defense lawyer Elchin Sadigov told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that the judge upheld the lower court’s decision. According to him Sadigov, a cassation complaint will be filed against this decision.
Although Agil Khalil attempted to leave the country several times, he was prevented from going abroad. Therefore, A.Khalil appealed to the Nasimi District Court to declare the decision not to allow him leave the country illegal and to recognize his freedom of movement. The judge of the court Emin Mehdiyev, not finding any evidence to show that Khalil was banned from leaving the country, adopted a decision to reject the lawsuit.
Sadigov told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that he presented to the court the decision of the Chief Prosecutor’s Office to ban Khalil from leaving the country and the documents given to Khalil by the border services about not letting Agil Khalil leave the country as evidence.
