APPELLATE COURT ISSUES DECISION FOR “KHAZAR TV” TO REFUTE

March 11th, 2009
Yesterday, 11 March, the Baku Appellate Court adopted a decision for “Khazar TV” to air a refutation, according to today’s edition of “Azadlig” Newspaper.

Video footage about the arrest Ganja city resident Zakiyya Hajiyeva was aired on “Khazar TV,” where she was accused of swindling. Claiming that the footage was prepared at the order of the Ganja City Police Department, Z. Hajiyeva filed a lawsuit against “Khazar TV” in the Narimanov District Court. Dissatisfied with the decision of the lower court, Z. Haziyeva appealed to the Appellate Court.
During the hearing held in the Appellate Court under the chairmanship of Judge Tofig Samadov, the appeal was investigated and the decision of the Narimanov District Court was annulled. The Appellate Court issued a decision ordering “Khazar TV” to refute footage aired about Haziyeva and to pay compensation to the plaintiff for moral damages.

IRFS contacted “Khazar TV” regarding this report. Someone named Shukru, who introduced himself as the lawyer of the TV channel told the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety that “Azadlig” Newspaper distributed false information.
