Human rights violations in Azerbaijan, especially the arrest of youth activists Adnan Hajizade and Emin Milli, have been discussed in the plenary meeting of the UN. The report was prepared by the Human Rights Defense Network in South Caucasus. It is noted in the report that freedom of expression is in danger, and journalists’ rights and freedoms are violated in Azerbaijan. Concern regarding the arrest of Emin Mili and Adnan Hajizade has been specifically expressed. The report will be discussed during 96th session of Human Rights Commission of the UN.
Note that on 20 July a report about the situation of political and civil rights in Azerbaijan along with other countries will be listened to during the meeting of the UN Human Rights Commission.
European Union Special Representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby expressed his opinion about the arrest of Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizade, according to Radio Liberty. “We are very concerned about the arrest of young activists and are closely observing the incident,” said Semneby. “We have talked to the government organs regarding this issue. I want to emphasize that human rights issues are part of bilateral agreements between the European Union and Azerbaijan and also commitments made within the framework of Council of Europe and OSCE. The most important thing is that we react to the incident. However, I don’t want to talk about what we are going to do or our plans.”
Great Britain Parliament Community Chamber’s 13 members have signed an appeal to Azerbaijan’s leadership. In the appeal the members call on Azerbaijan’s government to end the politically motivated persecution of citizens, to immediately release imprisoned journalists and young activists Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizade, and to restore the broadcasts of foreign radios.
On 14 July, Great Britain’s State Minister Baronessa Kinnock talked about the release of Adnan Hajizade and Emin Milli during one of official meetings of President Ilham Aliyev in London.

Although they appealed to police as victims, police detained Adnan and Emin as suspected persons for 48 hours and freed the attackers. On 10 July, Sabail District Court Judge Rauf Ahmadov issued a decision under article 221.2.1 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code to sentence Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizade to two months pre-trial detention.
