Arrestment lifted from bank account of Azadliq newspaper

The arrestment was lifted from the Azadliq newspaper’s bank account, as reported by the Mediaforum.az on November 28th.

Mediaforum.az quoted Azadliq editor Shujaddin Sharifov as saying that the legal representative of Anar Mammadov, Chairman of ZQAN Holding Management Board and son of Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov, has submitted a notice of withdrawal to the Yasamal District Court withdrawing Mammadov’s claim for compensation against the newspaper.
“In turn, the court requested International Bank to lift the arrestment from the bank accout of Azadliq newspaper. No money was deducted from the newspaper’s account”.
Businessman Anar Mammadov appealed to the court citing humiliation of his honor and damage to his business reputation in the article titled "Kamaladdin Heydarov's bear eaten" (published in the Azadliq newspaper on 1 July, 2010 and in Yeni Musavat on 2 July, 2010), and the article titled "Sheikh drives Anar Mammadov out of Dubai" (published in Yeni Musavat on 14 September, 2010). Mammadov demanded 250,000 AZN from each newspaper in compensation. On January 23rd 2012 Yasamal District Court partially granted the lawsuit by fining each newspaper 2000 AZN and requiring that each publish a retraction and apologize.
The bank account of the newspaper was frozen on November 5th, 2012.
