Today, 3 November, in the Azerbaijan Media Center, a press conference was conducted about the report prepared by Article 19, which contained the results of the investigation into the quality of the system in place to exercise the right to obtain information in Azerbaijan.
“Yeni Nesil” Journalists Union Chairman Arif Aliyev said that investigations were held in Baku, Ganja and Sumgait and were mainly focused on information inquiries that were sent to governmental organizations. “Investigations were conducted in the court regarding the information inquiries” said A.Aliyev. He added that the “Yeni Nesil” Journalists Union supported Article 19 regarding journalism, and The Media Rights Institute regarding legal cases.
Article 19 Program Head Natali Losekoot said that there are gaps in the legislation to obtain information, so governmental organs refuse to respond information inquiries without any basis, which seriously damages existing confidence between the state and society.
Media Rights Institute Head Rashid Hajili alluded to the fact that 20 percent of the information that was placed on internet sites of governmental organs was done so as a result of investigations.
