Neither relatives nor lawyers have any information about the conditions in which imprisoned “Azadlig” Newspaper Chief Editor Ganimet Zahid is being kept.
Zahid was transferred from Bayil Prison #1 to Prison #17 (in Bina settlement) on 22 May. Zahid’s wife Ayanda Murselaliyeva told “Azadlig” Newspaper that in next few days she expects to visit her husband, however artificial problems are being created to thwart these plans. “For the meeting we need to write an application for permission. They wouldn’t make a problem out of this would they?,” she said.
Zahid lawyer Elchin Sadigov said, that they absolutely have to get official permission. “Both relatives and lawyers are unable to directly meet with Zahid,” said Zahid. “We will have to write to the leadership of the prison for this every time. In reality, there is no restriction like this in the legislation.” According to Sadigov, if this issue persists, he will file a claim in court.
